Want List Wednesday – Country Jam Edition

I’m headed to Country Jam in Grand Junction, CO this weekend with some empowered kick-ass women! Channeling my country roots is always such fun. So here is my Want List Wednesday- Country Jam Edition…

Sundown Skirt Set @ Free People – $128.00

Bettie Jumpsuit @ The Reformation – $178

PRIMROSE @ Nocona Boots $175.95

There are so many weekends here in Southern California that aren’t maximized. Constant busy travel schedules, errands, workouts, and Netflix marathons of The Office suck up the days until it’s time for work again on Monday. Saturday, Brian and I decided it was time for the bikes to come out of hibernation and no errand was most important than exploring our neighboring city.

My Weekend in LA

I have my fair share of dinners with friends in Los Angeles. Sometimes, my boyfriend Brian and I make our way up for a Sunday Funday. But last weekend, we took his parents up on their offer to stay in an AirBNB in the hills above Echo Park for a family wedding. We took it as an opportunity to explore neighborhoods east of the Hollywood sign, and about 10 degrees hotter than our typical beach locale.

Good news for this look, May Gray still exists, so I sported my trusty leather jacket as a third piece. If there isn’t a leather jacket in your wardrobe, make your way to the nearest Zara and pick one up. You can thank me later.

Ikat and washed indigo? Brian’s parents know me too well.

Millie’s Cafe has existed since the 20s. Sit down and experience the blueberry pancakes, pure maple syrup, and chorizo breakfast tacos…and you’ll see why.

Matcha makes me crazy. As in happy crazy. I was addicted to coffee prior to investing in matcha powder, but now that I’ve moved on from wired coffee-inducing speed-talking to the focus of matcha there is no going back.

My favorite guy made me feel so at home with his family from South Dakota. I wish I had more photos from the wedding, but with the number of photographers present, I’m sure I’ll post those later. A fun combination of humor and romance, plus realism and hopeful well-wishes made for a glorious evening. When I think about love, I think about balance and I this wedding captured that perfectly.

Want List Wednesday

As my boyfriend and I have hosted two different sets of parents the last few weekends, I’ve started to dig into “what I wish I had on hand” for our guests. What I’ve found, I’ll share with you! Want List Wednesday, out-of-town guest edition:

Wifi Password Printable Guest Room Sign – ETSY $4.95 People are too polite to ask, but would love to know it!

Recycled Glass Globe Vase – Terrain $28 Even if they are just wildflowers, a guest room with fresh flowers is a must

Washed Cotton Duvet Cover – Urban Outfitters $69.00-99.00 This color is a nice balance of masculine and feminine, and oh so cozy!

Cathy’s Concepts® 4pc Monogram Bamboo & Slate Wine Tasting Flight – Target $43.99 Wine tasting in your own home!

Reverence Aromatique Hand Wash – AESOP @ Nordstrom $39 I promise this soap is worth its hefty price tag. Our hands are worth it.

Lace is for ladies!

A three-day weekend is upon us! Tis the season for big hats, lace, and white! Here in SoCal, we call this time “June gloom” because it’s mostly cloudy with a chance of afternoon sun. The good news is that long sleeve lace tops are perfectly acceptable in this transitional time. Since I can be wary of an overly feminine ensemble, these black denim shorts from Zara add just enough edge to keep me in a “cool girl goes to lunch” realm rather than “stuffy lady goes to a tea party”.

My obsession with large woven hats continues as does my recent awareness of skincare. This is 30…freckles turn the corner and re-emerge as sun spots…GASP!

Enjoy this long weekend all!

Want list Wednesday

May Grey is here, but it’s summer in my mind! What’s on my want list this week? Color, satin, humor, and rompers. I’m calling it right here, right now, the ruffle skort from Zara is the skort of the season!

  1. J. Crew “Salut!” T-shirt $32.90
  2. Levi’s Classic 501 Short $98 (a MUST)
  3. Zara Ruffled Skort $49.90
  4. Tobi Mini Ivory Floral Print Romper $88 (on sale for $44…for an undetermined amount of time. I find the best time to buy from Tobi is when it’s a new arrival!)
  5. Sam Edelman @ Nordstrom Brandie Lace-up Flat $89.95

Floral Femininity

I’m typically wearing man-repeller outfits. My boyfriend has learned to love them, but I wouldn’t say “feminine” is in my typical arsenal. I don’t know if it’s a maturity thing or just plain feeling more comfortable in my own skin but this season, I’ve gravitated towards florals, neutrals, and ruffles. This look is a balance between feminine, retro, and a bit of texture as a nod to my man-repeller style of the past.

I haven’t totally abandoned my roots. I’ve lived by the mantra that a fantastic pair of shoes requires a little bit of edge and a substantial amount of effort to get on. These are no exception. It takes me no less than 5 minutes to get these suede beauties on my feet, and it’s worth every minute when I confidently strut into the day.
